ALERA SA FWC Advocacy Course – Friday 8th December 2023
On behalf of ALERA SA, the Adelaide-based Members of the Fair Work Commission (FWC) are to conduct a full-day basic course in advocacy. This course will be relevant to anyone seeking to appear before the FWC and of particular interest to developing advocates and those seeking a refresher.
The training will include the following:
1. Overview of the FWC including its major jurisdictions and an explanation of its various modes of operation including in-person and on-line arrangements
2. The theory of advocacy
3. The strategy and practice of advocacy in the FWC including the stages of proceedings
4. Evidence – approach (rules of evidence and practice as applied by the FWC), witnesses, documents and the process of proving and tendering
5. Case preparation and presentation of simulated cases (Moots) - with the support of the FWC Members and experienced practitioners
6. Observations and tips from the Bench
The course will be conducted in-person at the FWC Adelaide premises on North Terrace.
Full day’s attendance at this course is worth 6 CPD points in Professional Skills.
Morning and afternoon tea and training materials will be provided.
